The EUS
Did you know that if you are an engineering student at UNB then you are automatically a member of the Engineering Undergraduate Society (EUS)? The EUS represents its members on a local and national level, and provides a number of services. The society helps make the university experience more enjoyable with the fabulous events or helping expose students to conferences and engineering competitions.
There are a variety of wet and dry (i.e., alcohol and alcohol-free) events that the EUS organizes. These include annual events such as the Welcome Back BBQ at the beginning of the fall term, Fall Freakout to celebrate Halloween, Pillar Pubs on Friday afternoons, Engineering Week filled with a fun activity everyday of the week as well as other events. New traditions arise every year such as last year’s coffee houses, and we are always looking for suggestions for new events.
We offer valuable academic services, such as providing volunteers for Academic and early orientation, Shadow day, the Lecture Series, as well as a wealth of knowledge on topics such as academic advising, course selection, and again the list goes on. We also select the Chair of the Engineering Endowment Fund (EEF) to our executive, who oversees the distribution of a large portion of the differential fee. On top of all this, we reach out to the community by raising funds for the Fredericton Food Bank, Tetra, and the Charlotte Street Arts Center.
We strongly encourage all students to volunteer and participate in events throughout the school term. These experiences allow students to meet their peers, relax and have fun. Should you be interested in volunteering, please e-mail eus@unb.ca and you would be included on our e-mail list.
Apart from the EUS there are other engineering groups that students can become involved with throughout their stay at UNB. the Iron Ring Yearbook, the Pillar (the Engineering Newsletter), BAHA club, Engineers Without Boarders, etc. are always looking for new participants.
Your source for information at UNB is The Pillar. This monthly satirical newspaper published by the EUS is packed with fresh and hilarious opinions of faculty, campus, local, and even world news. It’s also a great opportunity for you to be heard! Email pillar@unb.ca
Not only can students participate in the groups listed above, but they can also participate in their own departmental societies, which are the sub-socities of the EUS. These societies offer pubcrawls, banquets, educational events, intramural sports as well as other fun opportunities.
Basically, the EUS, its sub-societies and other groups on campus are here to help students enjoy their university experience. So get out and get involved with your EUS! If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas, feel free to contact us!
